Meeting April 18th
« on: March 15, 2010, 02:14:16 PM »
The April meeting will be at Mike Siemsen's shop in Chisago City. The door will open at 8:30 with the meeting running from 9:00 to 12:00. I am not sure what what we will demonstrate, maybe making a tombstone door. This will be a very social meeting with opportunities to talk, share, show and tell, and discuss your tools and projects. We will also do some planning for upcoming meetings.
Dean Jansa will run a saw filing seminar after the meeting from 12:30 to 4:00 which is open to anyone wanting to attend. The price is $25 and includes a file. Bring a saw between 5 and 10 points and a vise. If you don't have a "practice" saw I have some that you can use. We are limiting this to 12 people. RSVP for the saw filing please so we know how many files of which sizes we need to get.

Hollows and Rounds
Jerald Dahl will be talking about how he made his planes and procured the irons as well as wood selection and the two methods of lamination he used to get the required thickness for the planes. The half set Jerry made is basically from the Clark and Williams video with some initial help from Tod Herrli.  The method of making a "side escape" plane is the same for most molding planes.  We will compare Jerry's planes with an older 1/2 set of hollows and rounds and a new 1/2 set of Clark and Williams planes. We will test run them all talk about tuning them and learn how to stick a molding.
Agenda:
8:30 coffee and chat, show and tell
9:00 chapter business
9:30 show and tell and discussion
10:00 Molding Planes with Jerry Dahl
10:45 Trying out molding planes
12:00 end of meeting

There will be a saw filing seminar starting at 12:30 for anyone interested, cost is $25, please RSVP to Mike Siemsen.

We had a fun meeting with much visiting and sharing. Jerry gave a wonderful talk about haw he made his planes and the tools to make them with. We then made some molding with side escapement planes. It was a great morning and it was good to see everyone.
