I am looking for some advice on matching some veneer replacement. I am restoring a piece of empire funriture that has a few veneer chips. But I don't know how to make the new wood match the old.

The original veneers have turned an nice chocolate brown while the veneer is much lighter. Any adive on how to get the colors to match?

I have attached two pictures. One is dry while the other is wetted with rubbing alchol.

Can you locate any, Van Dyke Crystals, just add to hot water, makes a walnut stain, mixed thinly, and give a few coats, to match the old colour, polish when Dry.
Tricks of the trade.

       Hope this helps
