Today I had the pleasure of meeting the oldest Period Furniture Maker that I ever met. Irvin Rosen is 92 and was making and restoring clocks until very recently. He decided to sell all of his shop contents, veneer, and lumber and I attended the auction today. He lives in rural Western Virginia in beautiful farm country. It's so far back they have to pump in sunlight. I expect many of you pick up old books on the trades. It was interesting to buy books that Irvin signed and dated as early as 1927 and then chat with him about it! He was just a kid when he was reading this stuff and he still had the books. I also spoke to one of his sons who showed me a photo album and said Irvin had made over 100 clocks, and that was for just one style. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see any of his clocks but his patterns were there. This sale included a full shop of power and hand tools, carving tools, wide 60 year old mahogany, 1000 ft of vintage veneer. I managed to fill up my truck but the highlight was the opportunity to meet this Clock-Maker who really was an old"timer". As spry as he was, I expect he will continue working at his son's shop. You can read a little bit about him by googling Irvin Rosen +clock.

I followed the suggested lead and found that Mr. Rosen recently past away.
