This is really a diamond in the ruff, wow! what a great forum! I am not a professional just a hobbist and really like furniture, and refinishing and restoring furniture which I am doing for myself and afew other people. I just wanted to say that I love old furniture and try to build my pieces using all hand tools just like they would have been made back in the day ( I do have electric lights though). Just wanted to throw it out there and I am thinking of becomming a member of SAPFM too! Keep up the good work and all of the questions are really great to read too.

Hi Andy,

Welcome to the Forum. We're not all Luddites here. The decision to use electrons or to go cordless usually depends on several factors including one's tolerance for noise, dust, production, etc. Regardless your approach, you will find some great stuff buried on the boards of this Forum.
You say you are thinking of becoming a member. What can we do to push you over the fence?

I have nothing aganist power tools, if you are making a living building furniture than you must use them, I would think. I was curious I was at the local library and checked out a copy of the 2010 SAPFM publication and I had a question does it only come once a year or are there other post or mailings that go out?

Although I dont do woodworking at all, I find SAPFM a really worthwhile group of folks with alot of real world experience in the woodworking trades. Some of these guys do world class work whether by hand or machinery & share some of their work on here. WELCOME ABOARD!

If you think a forum is great, just wait until you attend a chapter meeting.  From the summaries posted here, it seems like the Ohio Chapter (close to you?) has developed into an active and energetic community.

We (Ohio River Valley Chapter) just had their Spring meeting this past weekend in Lancaster, OH.  In addition to Ohio, we draw a significant number of members from the surrounding states, including myself.  I actually live in Kentucky.   

Right now, we are planning on having a one day meeting in Lancaster, OH on Sunday June 12 to talk about new, old, and how to make molding planes with a very special guest.  I will be posting that meeting shortly.  Why don't you join, and come join us.
