makers of brass hardware

Does anyone know of any company or individual who can reproduce brass hardware that has the right "look", that is, it should  look like a period piece with all the imperfections, not "brand new".  I need a pair of hinges for a desk I am going to make, but they will have to be made because no one has the size I am looking for.  Thanks.

When my Dad needed some custom hinges made for a corner cupboard, he called and had them made by Ball and Ball in Pa.  I bought my hinges from Londonderry but settled for what they offered in their line.

It wasn't cheap but they made him an excellent product.

In followup to the previous reply, you mite also try Horton Brasses or White chapel.  Both Co. carry quite a variety of product.

Let us know how you fare. I have worked with Londonderry and Monroe Coldren as well as Ball and Ball. You might ask Nancy Anderson (a wondrful person) at Londonderry if she knows of someone doing this type of work. A restorer in your area might know of a source. I have made parts from solid brass when I couldn't find what I wanted. It isn't that hard to make them look "right". You really only need a drill, hacksaw and some files. If you want the sand cast look lay a piece of 80 grit sandpaper on the back and hammer on it though that part doesn't show when it is installed.

     I finally got  Ball and Ball to make them for me.  When I contacted them the first time they said that they couldn't do it, but when I ran out of options I called them again, and the person I talked to that time said they could just cut down a pair of blank(undrilled) hinge stock.  They worked fine.
