SAPFM Education Grants

What They Are

SAPFM is proud to announce that we will again award grants for educational assistance in 2017.  These grants are made in the name of 2001 Cartouche recipient and founding member John McAlister.

The first  grant was awarded in 2015.

Grants may be awarded in any of three categories:
      A. Support for full time academic study is a field directly related to period furniture making, but not exclusively as a period cabinetmaker.

  B. Support for research for a book or article directly related to period furniture.  This could be used for travel, materials, photography, etc., as proposed by the applicant.

  C. Support for attendance by a student at a seminar or conference such as, but not limited to, the CWF Working Wood Conference, Winterthur Furniture Forum, or MESDA’s Furniture Conference.

How to Apply

Application for assistance can be made at any time by downloading a copy of the Grant Application Form  (MS Word) and submitting it by email to mustainrw@juno.com.  The SAPFM awards committee will act on the application at its discretion and may require submission of supporting documentation as it sees fit. The committee may also require the applicant to participate in a teleconference interview.

Conditions

  • The number and size of the grant(s) will be determined by the Education Committee.
  • Officers and employees of SAPFM are not eligible to receive a grant under this program but may nominate candidates.
  • Professional woodworkers are not eligible to apply for grants to attend academic programs but may apply for assistance to pursue a scholarly study.
  • A successful applicant accepts the grant with the explicit understanding that in the event that the applicant discontinues his or her studies during the academic period for which the grant was made, discontinues the scholarly study for which the grant was made, or fails to attend the event for which the grant was made, SAPFM may, at its sole discretion, require repayment of all or part of the total grant. The number, size and timing of grants are determined by the Education Committee and decisions of the committee are final.
