The E-Interview Series: The Winchester Chest with Jeff Headley

Introduction

In the following interview we will be discussing a Winchester style chest made by Jeff Headley. What you will actually see is two chests one in walnut one in maple. These are the same style chests just different wood.  The maple chest is used to show more clearly the inlay or fine line on the chests chamfered corners.

At first glance the chest may look familiar. However upon closer examination you will find that these chests are quite unique in their design. They combine a serpentine front, flared feet and the chamfered corners. This is a combination I have not seen in any other American chest.  Over the next several pages Jeff Headley will take us through the steps of creating a Winchester style chest and offer pratical real world cabinetmaking advice.
