The Flare Foot

SAPFM What did you use to cut out the bottom profile on the sides?
HEADLEY I used a band saw to cut the serpentine shape on the bottom of the chest sides.

SAPFM How deep is the cut that accepts the wedge for the flare foot?
HEADLEY the depth or length depending how you look at it would be to where the flair starts on the foot. So that depends on the height of your foot. The slot on this chest is about 3” tall (fig. 12).

SAPFM How thick is the part of the foot that will be bent?
HEADLEY It is around 1/8”. I wouldn’t go too much thicker. It will cause problems flaring the foot by either splitting or the face of the foot now following the contour of the foot wedge and then you foot would not flow well.
