Drawer Blades

Figure 13. The case with the drawer blades installed.

SAPFM How are the drawer runners installed glued, nailed?
DAVIS Perhaps with a slight departure from the original, I tenoned the drawer runners into the back of the blade and didn’t glue it. It’s glued and nailed in the rear.

SAPFM The runners appear to be beveled in the back. Is there a reason for this?
DAVIS I cut a curved bevel into the rear end of the runner so I could use a shorter nail. I glued and then nailed the runner into the case side.

SAPFM What type of wood is used on the back of the case?
DAVIS White Pine.

SAPFM How is it held in place? (If nails what type and who is the supplier?)
DAVIS I predrilled and then used Tremont Nails . The boards were shiplapped and nailed to allow some movement of the wider panels.

SAPFM How far back is the bottom of the case set back from the front?
DAVIS The bottom to the bead on the case side measures 1 5/8".

SAPFM How will the top of the case be held on? Sliding dovetail?
DAVIS Yes.
