Drawer Blades

Figure 11. Mitering the case bead.
SAPFM In this photo the drawer blade that is in the lower left hand corner is in place however there is no bead on it. Is this just in place to square up the case while the beads are being cut in the upper right of the photo?
DAVIS Yes. But note the beads are scored but not yet rounded on both blades. In fact, the blades have not yet been brought to their serpentine shape. I did these steps after they were fitted to the case. The blade also follows the curve of the case side and I wanted to ensure they were fitted with dovetails before shaping the serpentine front.
SAPFM How is the beading on the dovetail removed once the blade is in place?
DAVIS After the dovetails were cut and fitted, I removed the blades, serpentined the front and cut the beads with a Stanley beader. I actually left some bead waste on the dovetail and use a trick that Tage Frid taught our Guild to use when the dovetail fit isn’t perfect. As the glue sets up, tap the waste with a ball peen hammer, or dovetail hammer as he called it, to make sure the dovetail fits tightly. After it sets, pare off the waste with a chisel.
