Q. What is being mortised here and do you do your mortises by hand or machine?

A. The mortise is joining the top rail (above the veneered door) to the stile (the vertical piece between the door and quater columns). I did the mortise by hand, but I usually do them with the router or drill press. In this case it did not seem to be worth the set up time.
